Progress of the Costa Maya pier reconstruction per the Seatrade Insider Web site.

“Following the damage suffered from the direct hit by Hurricane Dean in August 2007, Costa Maya’s rebuilding plans are ahead of schedule with reconstruction of berthing positions one and two about 58% complete.  Both positions should be ready to receive cruise passengers by summer 2008.  Work on the third berth is also progressing but will be finished at a later date.  Following a thorough evaluation of the damage, port officials originally said that it would take 12 months for rebuilding.”

There is still no word on when cruise ships are scheduled to return, but a couple entries on cruisecritic.com have indicated that negotiations are underway between the cruise lines and the port of Costa Maya.
